About Us
The Brancati Center was established by a philanthropic gift from Walgreens and endowed in the name and vision of Dr. Frederick Brancati, Professor of Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Brancati developed a unique vision for uniting industry partners and academic medical centers with the goal of developing new models of care.
Dr. Brancati was a highly regarded teacher and mentor, who won many awards from medical students, graduate students and postdoctoral students at Johns Hopkins. In 2013, he was named a Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine by the Johns Hopkins University Board of Trustees, a high honor bestowed upon very few senior faculty members to recognize excellent service to the institution. In 2013, Dr. Brancati died at the age of 53 from ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Mission: The Brancati Center will improve the health of communities – locally and nationally– by developing, evaluating, and disseminating new models of healthcare that leverage the skills of a diverse range of healthcare providers. The Brancati Center will accomplish this by engaging community and corporate organizations, payers and policy-makers in a supportive partnership with patients and caregivers.
Our Center is organized into three well-integrated units: Community Program Implementation, Education, and Community-based Research. The Center is led by an Executive Director and each of the three arms has a leader from the Johns Hopkins Division of General Internal Medicine. The Center has 12 staff members.
Additionally, we are guided by an Advisory Board consisting of individuals with dedication to the same principles and goals, each offering a unique perspective. Our Board members represent industry, charitable foundations, professional organizations, health care, schools, and community organizations.
